Grade 8 Medieval Jewish History

Course Overview-
The purpose of this course is to study the history of the medieval era with emphasis on the cultural, political, and religious changes throughout Europe. Most importantly, this course will examine the role of the Jews in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. By examining the Jews’ importance to the world around them and their continued perseverance throughout some of the most difficult times in Jewish history, students will comprehend the function of external and internal factors on Jewish identity both the individual and the communal.

Homework Assignments and Class Materials-
• Students must bring a binder to class.  They are responsible for all handouts, which will be included on exams.
• Students must have a separate section or folder  for journal and homework assignments.
• Homework will be collected at the beginning of class. (all homework should be typed, unless otherwise noted)
• Late homework will be accepted with a penalty.
• Students may contact me at any time via the school’s email.

Exams-
• Exams will be announced at least one week in advance
• Review sheets will be handed out four days before the exam, and should be filled out within two days, to allow for effective and meaningful review in class.
• Students should use their notes, handouts, and review sheets to study for exams. 
• If for any reason a student is absent on the day of an exam, they will be required to take a make-up exam the day they return to school.

Grades-
• The student’s grade will be based on tests, projects, homework, quizzes, attendance and class participation.
• Exams—30%
• Projects—15% (Creative Writing assignments, current events…)
• Homework—20%
• Quizzes—20%
• Class participation—15%
• Attendance to class will follow school policy
• Late arrivals to class will follow school policy Remember, coming to class on time and participating in class discussions will result in a better grade for you
